On l'oppose à l'adverbe, Là, & marque quelquefois certain lieu que l'on designe, bien que ce lieu ne soit pas determinement à l'endroit où on le marque. Icy il y a une forest, là une montagne. icy Alexandre gagna une bataille, là il passa une riviere. Il se met aussi dans la morale. Icy il pardonne, là il punit.
Icy, signifie aussi, L'endroit d'un discours, d'une narration, d'un livre &c. Icy il commence à parler d'une telle guerre. icy finit un tel traitté. jusqu'icy j'ay parlé des coustumes, des personnes.
Il est encore adverbe de temps. C'est icy la trentiesme Olympiade. icy commence le regne d'Alexandre. cela ne s'estoit point veu jusqu'icy.
Icy, se joint avec les noms des personnes, & des choses que l'on designe. Cet homme icy. cette femme icy. cette maison icy. Mais on dit plus ordinairement Cy. Cet homme cy. cette femme cy. ce temps-cy.
